I was asked by a few friends to do their logo ideation and email header for their upcoming event called The Griddle, a Saturday afternoon event with pancakes showcasing musical acts selected by the group. What originally started with the ideation of three- and four-color pancakes arranged on a griddle in Illustrator eventually became a simplified typographic logo and some GIF-making in Photoshop.
The idea was to give the logo an old school theme, and the name itself was reminiscent of diner culture, so the neon sign idea came to mind and made for a lot of ideation and maneuverability. It was important to emphasize pancakes within the name, so the first idea was a simple script type with a color overlays and glows, with a stack of pancakes and steam rising in the sign. After meeting with the group and showing the initial ideas, I went through a few iterations of the logo with placement, color combinations, and background color. After a few emails, the final choice was made.
